Who's Who

Home   | About Us

We are extremely fortunate in having an enthusiastic and hard working staff, as follows:

Mrs Katherine Towns - Head Teacher

What the Governors say:

"Mrs. Katherine Towns began as Headteacher on 1st January 2014 after a long hard search by the Governors to find the right person to be Head of our unique school.

Katherine Towns has an unusual history in that she returns to being Head of Glapthorn School having been in the role from 2003-2008.  She previously took on the headship role when the school was in serious weaknesses and transformed the school's learning whilst retaining its special ethos and making it an outstanding start to a child's education. From 2008-2013, she worked for Rutland County Council as a School Improvement Officer, and also during this time she got married and had two children!

Katherine Towns is generally on site 3 days/week (Mondays-Wednesdays), but is accountable to the school 5 days/week.  We are very lucky to have secured such a high calibre experienced head whose loyalties will lie solely with our school."

Mrs Lou Coulthard - Associate Head Teacher

Teaches Year  Five and Six children in Red Kites class.  She is an experienced and dynamic teacher aiming to challenge every individual in her care.

Lou Coulthard is Associate Head and  works very closely with Katherine Towns. She is responsible for the day to day running of the school for the two days when Mrs. Towns is off site.

Miss Sarah Marrison joined us in September 2015 with a first class degree and having completed her PGCE with outstanding gradings in all her teaching practices.  She is a specialist in PE and Special Needs so brings many skills and qualities to add to the staff team.  Miss Marrison teaches Year Three and Four children in Nightingales class.

Miss Debbie Vickers is an extremely experienced KS1 teacher, teaching Years One and Two in Barn Owls class four days a week.  She joined us in September 2014 from Cheshire and creates a calm, happy oasis for all the children to learn.

Mrs Zoe Taggart joined the team in September 2014 as our full time Reception teacher, teaching Robins class.  Zoe is an experienced Reception teacher and brings great enthusiasm to her role.  She does a brilliant job at helping the children (and parents) settle into life at Glapthorn School.  Mrs Taggart is on maternity leave from November 2016 and we are delighted to have Mrs Dawn Oram teaching in Robins class until the end of the academic year.

Miss Louise Gregory teaches in Barn Owls class on Mondays, job sharing with Miss Vickers and teaches PE and computing throughout the school.  Louise works in school Monday-Wednesday and is our Inclusion Co-ordinator, leading on Special Needs.  Louise began her teaching career at Glapthorn in September 2010 after completing her BA in Primary Education at the University of Bedford.  She is an excellent teacher and communicator and has wonderful rapport with the children.  Miss Gregory began her maternity leave in January 2017 and we are delighted to have Mrs Wendy Edwards covering her role.

Mrs Joanna Sawyer has been working as our School Adminstrator and Bursar since January 2004.  She provides wisdom and support for the children, parents and staff - especially for the Headteacher!

The very high ratio of support staff to children means we can support all the children fully, ensuring children receive the help they need.
